Vera Bast

VERA LORRAINE BAST, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Arbor Terrace in Manassas, VA.

She was born on March 17, 1926 in New Hartford, Iowa to the late Earl and Martha (Bergman) Shelton. Mrs. Bast has been a member of Chapel Springs Assembly of God, formerly Manassas Assembly of God, since 1962 where she worked in their accounting department after retiring from Merchant’s Corporate Headquarters. Vera also volunteered at Prince William Hospital as a Pink Lady and volunteered in the Pharmacy at the Veterans Hospital in Martinsburg, WV.

She is predeceased by her parents; husband: Eugene Martin Bast; son: Lynn W. Bast and daughter: Cathy A. Kiser. Survivors include six children: Linda H. Bassett of Catlett, VA, Vickie J. Richey of Rock Hill, SC, Jean L. Bast and wife Grace of Clayton, NC, Thomas N. Bast and wife Laura of Winchester, VA; Julie L. Pizzola of Manassas, VA and Michele L. Martin and husband Robert of Manassas, VA; daughter-in-law: Valerie Bast of Manassas, VA; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother: Donald Shelton and wife Verna of Waterloo, IA; half-brother: Kenneth Pollack and wife Brenda of Denver, IA and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 18, 2015 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Pierce Funeral Home, 9609 Center Street, Manassas, VA. Funeral service will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Chapel Springs Assembly of God, 11500 New Life Way, Bristow, VA 20136 with Pastor Scott Leib officiating. Interment to follow at 12:00 PM at National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA.
