Vera lived a simple, hard working life. Every thought and every action was geared towards her family to make sure everyone was taken care of and had a tummy full of food.
Vera will live on through her three daughters, JoAnne, Melanie and Michelle. Each has inherited certain unique characteristics of hers whether they like it or not. Just like her mother, JoAnne is the momma bear. She is loyal, protective, and god help anyone that discourages her family. Melanie will always be the leader. She is impartial, fierce, the voice of reason and never afraid to speak up. And without exception, Michelle will carry on Vera’s strength. She is self-reliant, tenacious and has a calm confidence behind the scenes.
Vera came to life during every holiday season. All would gather in the kitchen while she created unforgettable meals and memories for her family. From a young age, each of her daughters participated in the ultimate, greatest responsibility of cooking the gravy for the holiday meal. According to Vera, the gravy was the cornerstone of the meal and brought everything together. Great care had to be taken with the gravy and it was protected at all cost. It had to be constantly stirred to prevent lumps. Although Vera is no longer here to supervise her gravy making, her daughters will continue to stir and stir in hopes that their gravy will turn out half as flavorful as their momma’s.
