

WALLS VIRGINIA JUNKIN WALLS (Age 96) Virginia Junkin Walls, 96, of Weems, VA died January 6, 2013. She was born on February 7, 1916 in Mifflintown, PA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin Junkin and Martha Washington Jackman Junkin; her husband of 50 years, William McDonald Walls and her grandson, Daniel Carl Sanders. Surviving are four children, Mary Virginia Vinson of Southport, Fla., Kathryn Ann Milner of Orange Park, Fla. William Robert Walls of Edinburg, VA and Martha Jane Walls of Stevensville, MD; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mrs. Walls earned her undergraduate degree in Physical Education at Beaver College in 1938 and her graduate degree in Education from George Washington University. She was a very active sportswoman. She was captain and manager of the Beaver College Rifle Team and received the 1936 National Woman's Rifle Champion of the U.S. She lettered in five sports in college and made the South East and All Philadelphia II Field Hockey Teams. She continued playing golf until her mid-eighties winning many local championships. She taught P. E. in the D. C. School System at McKinley High School and 2nd grade at American School, Vientiane, Laos. Mrs. Walls was a resident of Washington, DC from 1920-1946; McLean, VA from 1946-1973 and after her husband's retirement moved to Weems, Va. in 1973. She was an active volunteer for numerous charity organizations. In her later years, she was a docent for the Foundation for Historic Christ Church and as a member of the King Carter Chapter No. 5 Order of the Eastern Star; she was an active supporter of her husband's charitable activities for the Shriner's Hospitals for Children. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. January 12, 2013 at National Memorial Park Cemetery, 7400 Lee Hwy., Falls Church, VA 22042.
