Wea-tack Woo, 83, of Lorton, Virginia, passed away peacefully on May 14th, 2021.
Wea-tack was born on January 6th, 1938 to Dong-hyun Park and Gum-hae Suh of Kimhae, South Korea. Wea-tack completed primary school, after which she attended a technical school for fashion and dressmaking, earning a teaching certificate.
In 1959, Wea-tack met Oh (John) Hyon Woo and were married in December 1959. They lived in in Kimhae and Tae-gu, South Korea, before settling down in Taebo, South Korea. Their first son, Chung-ho, was born in August 23, 1960, and their second son, Chung-yul, was born in September 1, 1963.
In 1965, John was deployed overseas to Vientianne, Laos, as an airline mechanic with Continental Airlines, and in 1968, Wea-tack and their two children joined John in Vientianne, laos. In 1972, Wea-tack went to the United States in Washington, D.C. and laid the groundwork for John and the two boys to join her in America in March 1973.
The family initially lived in Easton, Maryland, then moved to Laural Delaware, and then to Gumboro, Delaware.
Even though Wea-tack continued to work all her life until a hip accident, she dedicated her life and her passion to her children and husband. Her oldest, Chung-ho (Sean) Woo attended Harvard University and Widener School of Law, and have worked for many years in the US government and in the private sector. Her second son, Chung-yul (Phillip) Woo, attended Yale University and University of Iowa School of Medicine, and is a physician in Northern Virginia.
Wea-tack supported her family through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. Whether that was supporting and working with her husband on their various business ventures or helping her children by supporting their career, Wea-tack made it her mission to improve the lives of others.
Wea-tack was passionate about cooking and when she wasn’t filling her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found taking care of her homegrown vegetables with her husband. We will miss her greatly.
Wea-tack is survived by her husband John and her two sons, Chung-ho (Sean) Woo, and Chung-yul (Phillip) Woo.
Viewing, service and graveside services will be held on May 24, 2021 starting at 10 AM at National Memorial Park, in Falls Church, Virginia.
