William Dunbar

William Francis Dunbar, 70, of Fairfax, Virginia passed peacefully on August 15, 2019 at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia. Billy, as he was lovingly called by his family, was born in Alexandria, Virginia to Melvin Dunbar Sr. and Bertha Dunbar as the third of nine children. He attended George Washington High School in Alexandria, Virginia and served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam War. Billy enjoyed spending time with his family and was a proud father to his sons, Christopher and Eric. Bill was a known lover of coffee, all things science fiction and enjoyed his free time by keeping the family history records and researching genealogy projects. He will be remembered for his wisdom, infectious laugh and kind spirit. William is survived by his son, Eric Dunbar with wife Stephanie of Bristow, Virginia; his sisters, Juanita Rew of Gloucester, Virginia, Theresa Wagenbrenner of Ellicott City, Maryland, Bridget Gilmore of Lakeland, Florida, JoAnn Dunbar of Sykesville, Maryland and Michele Dunbar of Sweetwater, Texas as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. William is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Dunbar; parents, Melvin Dunbar Sr and Bertha Dunbar and siblings, Melvin Dunbar Jr, James Dunbar and Mary Dunbar. A Celebration of Life to honor William will take place on Saturday September 7, 2019 at National Funeral Home 7482 Lee Highway Falls Church, Virginia. A Memorial Service will be held at 12 P.M. in the chapel followed by a reception.
