Scott is survived by his wife of 23 years, Holly; their three beloved sons, Teddy, Sam and Nicholas; his parents, Morton and NormaLee Funger of Potomac, MD; sisters, Lydia (Bill) McClain of Potomac and Melanie (Paul) Nichols of San Anselmo, CA; and brother, Keith Funger of Potomac. Scott also leaves behind his loving in-laws, the Wheeler Family, 13 nieces and nephews, and the best friends a man could ever ask for.
Scott was born September 15, 1957 in Washington, DC and was raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Upon graduating from Duke University, Scott returned to Maryland to attend George Washington University School of Law. Scott found his legal niche helping those that were injured, Ill or destitute. Scott was a friend to both judges and to the workingman, politicians and physical therapists, neurologists and parking attendants.
There was no one that met Scott who did not consider him a friend. In addition to his legal practice, Scott served as the Chairman of the Duke University Medical Center Heart Board. Scott's passion for collecting rare coins and numismatics began as a young boy and continued throughout his life. His collections were sold at major auctions throughout the US but he mostly loved finding small collectors and talking with them about coins.
Scott was passionate about the outdoors and he was happiest when he had a fly rod or a 12 gauge in his hand. Despite (or maybe because of) a terminal prognosis of pancreatic cancer in October 2011, Scott continued to do the things he loved; hunting, fishing and traveling with the people he adored; his family and a cadre of friends that meant the world to him.
Scott leaves a legacy of good and charitable work, but without a doubt, the world was a better place with him in it.
