

William James O’Connell Sr., 91, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend; born Tuesday, April 4, 1922 in Saranac Lake, New York to his parents Walter & Paulina O’Connell; passed from his earthly life on Saturday, October 19, 2013 in Burke, Virginia with his loving family by his side. Originally from Saranac Lake, New York William grew up in Hoboken, New Jersey with his loving parents, his one brother and his one sister. After graduating from Demerist High School in Hoboken, New Jersey William came to Washington, DC to work in the government and later enlisted in the United States Army and served as a medic in World War II. Returning to Washington, DC following the war William went back to work for the government and attended and graduated from Columbus University which is now part of Catholic University receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. While working for the government William met the love of his life Mimi Keating; they were married on Saturday, June 17, 1950. They were the proud parents of three children and later blessed with four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. William worked for Charles G. Stott Co. a furniture and office supply company in Maryland, District of Columbia and Virginia for forty-five years until his retirement. William will be deeply missed by all who knew him and had their lives touched by him as he will always be remembered as good, kind, gentle and loving husband, father and grandfather. William is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Mary O’Connell; his loving parents, Walter & Paulina O’Connell; his dear brother and sister, George O’Connell and Helen O’Connell Dalton. William is survived by his beloved children, Paulina Helen O’Connell, Kathleen Mary Moore & husband Rick and William James O’Connell Jr. & wife Beth; four dear grandchildren, Will Gazes & wife Robin , Bryan O’Connell & wife Sarah, Emily O’Connell and Ryan Moore & wife Susan; five dearly loved great-grandchildren, Jackie, Willie, Emma, Jack and Reagan and numerous other family members and friends. Services have been entrusted to Murphy Funeral Home; 1102 W. Broad Street; Falls Church, Virginia 22046. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 23, 2013 from 5-8PM at Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church, Virginia. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 10:30AM at St. Philips Catholic Church; 7500 St. Phillips Ct.; Falls Church, Virginia 22043.
