

Mr. Zapf was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and was raised and educated there. He graduated from Will Rogers H.S. in Tulsa, and continued his education at Oklahoma A & M, where he received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. He later served in the U.S. Army from 1952- 1955.
He and Stella were married on October 29, 1955. They lived in California, and later in the Northern Virginia area.
Will worked for the U.S. Government as an engineer as a civilian for the United States Marine Corp. After retiring, they settled in the Hendersonville, N.C. area and later in Fredericksburg, Va. For the past three years, Mr Zapf has lived at the Heatherwood Retirement Community in Burke, Va.
Will was an avid fly fisherman and was a member of Trout Unlimited. He was also a member of the Potomac, Appalachian Trail Club. He volunteered for the Meals on Wheels Program and at the Hendersonville Library.
Mr. Zapf is survived by his daughter Julie Zapf Heubusch, wife of Jeffrey, and a granddaughter Christine Marie Heubusch, all of Oakton, Va. Survived also by his nephew and nieces and their children.
A Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at the National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, Va. 22042. There are no visiting hours and burial is private.
Family suggests donations in Mr. Zapf’s memory to either the American Cancer Society or to a Charity of One’s Choice.
