Dr. Wolfgang Otto was born in Gera, Germany on May 111925 and died February 22, 2015 at the INOVA Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church,Virginia. His education was interrupted when he was drafted into the German Army at about the age of 17. He was assigned to the Russian Front and fought in Finland and later went to Officer Candidate School and made a Lieutenant. He was then sent to France and later became a German prisoner of War in the U.S. Sector.
After the war he continued his education and received a Doctor of Law from the University of Heidelberg. In the early 1960s, he immigrated to the United States. His law degree from Germany was not accepted in the United States so he worked as a laborer including carrying bricks to build houses, while studying at night and eventually earing a Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver. He retired after working for 22 years as a lawyer for the Internal Revenue Service.
His marriage to a Vera Karin Ochmann ended in divorce in 1968. She died in 2010. Although he has no blood relatives left, He is survived by many friends in the U. S. and Germany. There will be a visitation time at the Murphy Funeral Home 1102 Broad St. Falls Church, VA 22046 on Saturday March 7, 2015 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Interment services will be Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 11:00AM at Union Cemetery, 3001 Spencerville Rd., Burtonsville, MD. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 3335 Sherman Ave NW, Washington, D.C. 20010 or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.
