Alva Mordecai Wilson, known to most as “Noddy” or “Uncle Noddy”, of 36 Kirkcaldy Lane, Middletown, DE, passed away in peace in the master bedroom of his home in Delaware on the morning of Saturday, October 15th with his sons Mark and Jason at his side.
The third child of Ronald and Una Wilson, he was born on September 13th, 1943, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Alva migrated to the United States in 1968 after marrying Beverley Elaine (nٙée Butterfield) Wilson in a beautiful wedding in Jamaica. Alva’s younger sister Valerie (who went to school with Beverley) introduced the couple. The first home for the newlyweds was an apartment on 178th Street in the Bronx, New York. The couple had their first child Mark in 1969. At this time Alva worked on Wall Street as an investment analyst for Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. In this position, Alva flourished and in 1972 moved his small family to a residential home in Laurelton, Queens, NY. Son Michael was born in 1974 and son Jason was born in 1977.
During these years Alva attended night courses at York College in Queens where he received a degree in Business Administration. After leaving Lehman Brothers, he returned to the field of customs brokerage, having previously worked in field in Jamaica. In 1978 he earned his United States Customs Brokerage License. After working for different brokerage houses, he formed his own privately owned company, W.A.M. Express in 1983 based out of Lynbrook, NY and retired in 2007. He and Beverley, his bride of 52 years, spent most of their time together with their family first at the home in Laurelton Queens, and then later East Northport, Long Island before retiring to Delaware in 2008.
A loved father of daughter Marsha, sons Mark, Michael, and Jason. Grandfather (Pop Pop) to Brandon. Uncle to nephews Patrick, Derrick, Adrian, Dee, Winston, David, Christopher, and Andrew, and nieces Dawn, Florette, Alyson, Maureen, Cherise, and Deniece. Alva always spoke in nothing but the highest regard and loving affection of his brothers Errol, Winston, and sisters Valerie, and Florette.
He was an avid reader, incredible public speaker, lover of history, politics, boxing, soccer, horse racing, and music. Alva possessed a commanding physical presence that he further supported with an undeniable intellect. In any given conversation he could discuss a myriad of historical events throughout not just decades but centuries covering various empires and continents. Alva was a firm believer in the importance of family, personal character, dignity, generosity, humility, and protecting the human rights of all people.
Alva “Noddy” Wilson embodied every aspect of a fighter his entire life. He fought against all odds to his mortal end for those that he loved. The fight is now over, and the pain has ended. God has given him the peace he deserved and reunited him with his true love Beverley. May both their souls remain forever intertwined in an endless dance of love in the hereafter.
