“Smitty”
May 18, 1927 ~ May 3, 2025
It is with hearts filled with love and gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved Francis (Smitty) Smith, 15 days shy of his 98th birthday!! He was born & raised in Queens but has called Bethpage his home for the last 70 years. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. In 1952 he married the love of his life, Doris Corbett, and together they raised five sons. He spent the majority of his career as a sanitation worker for the Town of Oyster Bay. He was a man of great faith & compassion and was an active member of the parish of St Martin of Tours in Bethpage. He was pre-deceased by both his mother, Catherine Reilly, and by his son, Michael (24). He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of almost 73 years along with his sons Thomas and his wife Cheryl, Robert and his wife Janet, Kevin, and Brian and his wife, Kerry. He is also survived by his daughter-in law, Patricia. He was a devoted & cherished “Papa” to Natalie, Robert, Steven, Kristen (John) Dana (Michael), Ryan, Michael, Kelly (Ali), Olivia & Caroline. He was a loving great-grandfather to Preston, Brentley, Valentina, Sydney, Sienna & Gwendolyn. He will be dearly missed but it brings us great comfort to know that he has been reunited with Michael and that he is at peace. His legacy will live on in all of us who loved him so dearly. Until we meet again Smitty, ‘‘twas heaven here with you”
