

George Henry Lightfoot, 83, of Massapequa, passed away on October 13, 2024. A native of Brooklyn, New York, George was born on February 10, 1941 to Vivian and George Robert Lightfoot. Upon marrying the love of his life, he moved to Freeport, New York. Thereafter, he remained a lifelong Nassau County resident. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Vera, to whom he was a loving husband for 61 years, his son, George H. Lightfoot III (Mary Clare), brother Jim, sisters Christine and Lynn, and granddaughters Cecily and Elisa. Other survivors include five nieces and one nephew, as well as their children. George was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sisters Florence and Lois, as well as one niece. George was a man of many trades and hobbies throughout his life including linotype operator, fisherman, truck driver, welder, chef, and boat builder, among others. For many years, George enjoyed working outside, whether working on fishing boats, fishing on his own personal boat, driving, or having a barbecue in the backyard on a nice day. George could also be found simply sitting down with a good book to read, as he had several intellectual interests. Over the last several years in retirement, He found purpose and personal joy through volunteering at Hope For the Future Ministries in Farmingdale, NY. George exhibited a quiet demeanor, was patient, humble, and was rarely heard to speak negatively of anyone. A memorial service honoring George's memory will be held on Saturday, November 23, 12 pm at Experience Church. Cremation was private.
