Martino, Joseph M., longtime Bethpage resident passed away May 30, 2024. Loving husband of 53 years to Carol. Adored father of Michelle Calderon (John), Joseph, John (Anne), and Michael. Treasured grandfather of Christopher, Devan, Cameron, Remi, Maxine, Mavrick, and Olivia. Cherished great-grandfather of Kenzo. Beloved brother of Jo-Ann DiGennaro, Paula Shock and predeceased by Sam, Michael, Alice, and Rosemary. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Proud Vietnam Army Veteran, War Hero and Purple Heart Recipient. Retired NYPD Police Officer with many years of dedicated service. He was a longtime dedicated parishioner of St. James RC Church, never missing an 8 am Mass, and always sitting in the same seat. Joseph was born in Brooklyn and was very proud of his Brooklyn Italian roots and loved to tell stories about his childhood. His family made his world go round and he was the glue that kept them all together. Joseph loved to cook as much as he loved to eat and everything he made was outstanding. His cooking brought the family together many nights a week, but Sunday dinners always brought the entire family together. In his younger years, he enjoyed anything outdoors, whether it was hunting, fishing or camping. Joseph was tough as nails on the outside but emotional on the inside. He was diligent and liked to be in charge, because then he knew the job would be done right the first time, making his infamous phrase was “just let me do it”. If Joseph had to be summed up in just a few words, they would be family, patriot, selfless and faith. He was an amazing man and there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that the world is a better place because Joseph was in it. The family will receive visitors Sunday, June 2nd, 2-4 and 7-9 pm at Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Inc., 315 Conklin Street, Farmingdale. Funeral Mass Monday, June 3rd, 9:15 am at St. James RC Church. Interment with military honors following at St. Charles Cemetery.
