April 12, 1946 – August 2, 2025
It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we share the passing of Lorraine Rita Bucalo, a kind-hearted and devoted resident of South Farmingdale, New York. Lorraine passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at the age of 79, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Born on April 12, 1946, to her beloved parents, James and Rita Volpe, Lorraine was a gentle soul who lived a life filled with compassion and joy.
Lorraine’s love and devotion to her family knew no bounds. She is survived by her daughter Darlene Rao and son-in-law Jim Rao, and her beloved grandchildren, Jimmy, Antonio, and Olivia Rao, who were her heart and soul. Her warmth, encouragement, and humor shaped their lives in countless ways, and her absence will be deeply felt by all of her family and friends.
She was predeceased by her loving parents, her devoted partner Joe Sardone, and her furry companion Luci Belle, her be-all and end-all, who brought her immeasurable comfort and companionship.
Lorraine had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, especially when it meant creating unforgettable memories with her family. No matter where she went, she never returned home empty-handed—always bringing back knickknacks and tchotchkes from her travels as tokens of love, each one carrying a story and a smile. Her loving spirit extended beyond people to animals, and she was proud to help find Daisy the Cavapoo for her daughter Darlene, ensuring the home stayed filled with joy and affection.
A loyal New York Yankees fan, Lorraine enjoyed cheering on her team and sharing in the excitement of each game. Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, and she especially delighted in finding thoughtful gifts. One of her most treasured traditions was making custom family photo calendars, filled with pictures from vacations and celebrations—beautiful keepsakes she joyfully gifted to her loved ones year after year.
Lorraine adored family parties, where she was surrounded by the happy chaos of loved ones, endless laughter, and plenty of loud voices—exactly the way she liked it. She especially treasured her time with her grandchildren, collecting coins, playing bingo, Yahtzee, Uno, Dominos, and cards, and even teaching her grandson how to play Texas Hold'em. Game nights often meant Chinese food, fun traditions that made her home the heart of the family.
A visitation and a celebration of Lorraine’s life will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM at Arthur F. White Funeral Home, 315 Conklin Street, Farmingdale, New York, 11735. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday August 7, 2025 at 10:45 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes, Massapequa Park, NY. Lorraine will be laid to rest at St. Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
In honor of Lorraine’s giving spirit, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD.
Lorraine's kind and joyful presence, her thoughtful gestures, and her deep devotion to those she loved will remain forever in our hearts. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her love will guide us—always.
