Louise was my first cousin and ten years older than me, a generation apart, but as we aged they melted away and we rekindled a closeness, something I hadn’t expected. She was always an inspiration, right up to her final breath. Among our family, Lousie stood out, not because she tried to, nor even wanted to, she just did in her quite way. I think she was a perfect amalgam of her mother & father. Later in life we would have long conversations, and she would remind me of her father, and then a warmth and a twinkle would remind me of her mom. When Louise and Jack came together and married, it was as if they both had been reborn. Together they forged a period of their lives I think of as a great Renaissance. Lousie’s art blossomed, she became a known Long Island artist. Several of her pieces hang in our home because they are wonderful. She also did a portrait of our loving Maine Coon cat, which hangs in our kitchen. She seemed tickled that people liked her art and would pay for It. It was a side of her I really hadn’t known about nor appreciated. Sometime after she had lost the love of her life, Jack, I had stayed with her for a day or two; we talked about her art and everything under the sun. We made a tour of the north shore and out east to look at landscapes, and buildings. It was probably the best time we had ever spent together. But always not far from her mind was her family–her brother, her children and grandchildren, Jack’s memory, her adopted second family, and of course her mother and father. I only wish I had a better memory to remember all things she shared about each and everyone. But of course, I lost track and can only recall wondering how she had so much love to share among so many. Lousie was so much more, and to so many. When some says, “a life well led,” think of Louise. Her passing has left a hole in our hearts, which will heal,  she left us with wonderful memories, and her art to remind of us of her and inspire us for next chapter of our lives.

Aunt Louise was just the best. I know that her spirit lives on in me and all the lives that she touched along her journey. Louise was genuine, kind, creative and ever curious. I have so many wonderful memories stemming from my childhood and couldn’t be more grateful that she played such an important role bearing witness and representing my family at my wedding. Louise was a gem or, to use her term, a great “gal”! She will be missed and ever remembered.

Our Aunt Louise carried herself with humble dignity and grace. She was unmistakably intelligent and gifted. She spoke of her children and grandchildren adoringly during our conversations. One time amongst several that stands out to me is an early morning breakfast we shared in her lovely comfortable home. We shared deep thoughts on life and our journey, and I found her wisdom comforting and encouraging. She expressed herself also in her paintings. Her choice of vivid colors and geometric shapes added to her landscapes. Her eye could capture a feeling and bring it to visual life on canvass. She is a unique and special person that I am so grateful to have shared time with. I will remember these times with profound joy.

Sorry for the loss of your Mom Louise. May your family know that God will take it from here and Louise will be your angel for life.

As different as light and shadow, and four years apart I grew up convinced my sister belonged to the “older “ generation. 

But around the time her life was transformed by meeting Jack she reached out to me.

And that inspired me in turn to reach out to her. 

From that point on we grew ever closer and more intimate. The “older/younger” generation division ceased to exist. 

I can honestly say that without her trusted presence (and Sean’s) in my life I would today be a far smaller person. And for this I will forever be grateful.

Louise was a sweet, kind person.  She always had time to talk to you.  She will be greatly missed.

This is one of my favorite pictures of Louise and Jack, from way back in 1982. I look at it with sadness at this profound loss, but also with a sense that they are still with us - and each other - in spirit. Louise, like Jack, was as much sibling as cousin to my mother, and thus like an aunt to me. But even more than that, a friend. She has enriched us all with her very presence in our lives. Love and condolences from Mindi and me to all of her family and friends.

Louise married my mother’s favorite cousin, Sonny (a.k.a. Jack. He called her Murphy). She immediately became a beloved member of our family. We loved her creativity, her warmth, and her  sense of humor. I remember visiting her at one of the many outdoor arts show shows where she and Jack exhibited her beautiful paintings, two of which are hanging in our house. This photo is of my mother, Bobbie, with Louise and Chris (who married my mom’s other favorite cousin, Mike - also gone too soon).

Louise married into our family when she married my cousin Jack. She was welcomed immediately because she was so loving and caring and friendly. Her artistic talent was amazing. One of my treasured possessions is a beautiful beach-scene painting she made for me that hangs in my den to this day; I will forever have peaceful, happy memories every time I look at it. She was especially wonderful to my mother, Renee Samberg . My mom considered Louise more than a cousin, but a true friend. The  2 of them had lots of fun together.! I recall the laughs they shared! We will all miss Louise terribly and we send our sincere condolences to the entire family … …..Irene and Steve Levine
