Elizabeth Jean Hess

Elizabeth Jean Hess, 87, of Fayetteville, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at Hidden Valley Center, Oak Hill. Born on September 28, 1927 at Neola, WV, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Hattie Vanburen Underwood. Mrs. Hess was a member of Fayetteville United Methodist Church. She graduated from Fayetteville High School. She worked as a teacher’s aide at Beckwith Elementary, secretary for Fayetteville United Methodist Church and Fayetteville Town Hall. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ermel Afton Hess; a brother and a sister. Left to cherish many wonderful memories include her sons, Larry Joe Hess and wife, Linda of Fayetteville, and Mike Hess and wife, Judy of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Brooke Stone and husband, Joe, Tiffany Hess Kurzyna and husband, Phillip, and John Hess; great-grandchildren, Joseph Stone IV, Lindsey Hess, Garrett Hess Stone, and Victoria Chesterfield; one great-great grandchild, Jaylen Hess Goodman; step-mother; three brothers; one sister; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. Clare Sulgit and Rev. Earl Jackson officiating. Burial will follow at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral on Saturday at the funeral home.
