

She was born on December 27, 1925 in Chatteroy, WV. Preceding her in death were her parents, Clifford “Knott County” Davis and Anna Burton Davis; her husband of sixty-one years, Chester Darrell “Amos” Pennington; brother, Clyde E. “Bo” Davis, McAlester, OK; sister, Phyllis Carol Davis Stewart, Surfside, SC; oldest daughter, Judith Ann Pennington, Greensboro, GA; foster daughter, Vanna Wilmoth Daniel, Columbia, SC; and great-grandson, Alexander Wilbourne, Atlanta, GA.
Imogene is survived by her daughters: Nancy Tissue (Phil) and Sally L. Pennington (Andrew) of Lansing, WV, and Linda Jernigan (Henry) of Roanoke, VA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, nephew, Thomas Ray Koontz and family, and many other special cousins, nieces and nephews.
Imogene graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1944 and earned a BA in Elementary ED from Morris Harvey College in 1971. She taught and substituted in the elementary and middle schools of Fayette County for nearly 30 years. She was a dedicated member of Fayetteville Presbyterian Church. She and Amos loved camping and spent many vacations at Ocean Lakes Campground in South Carolina. They also owned New River Gorge Campground. She was a member of the New Haven Public Service District Board for more than 20 years and participated in numerous civic organizations.
Imogene was a devoted mother, grandmother, teacher, colleague, and friend. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support. She will be deeply missed.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice/Palliative Care of Southern WV and Imogene’s devoted caregivers – Kathy Fox, Ginny Price, Lisa Abbott, and Barbara Lavender – for their compassionate and loving care.
Services will be head at the Fayetteville Presbyterian Church, Saturday, July 26, 2025 with visitation from 12:00 noon – 1:00 followed by a Celebration of Life service and interment at Huse Memorial Park.
