They don't make them like Jim anymore. Both my parents were WWII veterans and I wish I could talk with them the way I talked with Jim. My regrets that we have all lost him. I'm sure he is now in King Solomon's Temple.

Jim and Juanita were my next door neighbors for years. I treasured them so much and miss them. I can't imagine not seeing Jim in his garden. And not hearing everyone that walked by calling a hello to him.
Rest in Peace, Dear Friend, your Crown awaits.

We will miss you Jim, seeing you ride by our house in your chair, sitting on your front porch waving to all who pass by. I feel privileged to have known you.

It was an honor to know Jim; his graciousness, his sense of humor; his many talents and stories. Often when I visited him and we talked on his front porch he would ask "What's your hurry?" whenever I needed to get home. It didn't matter if I had been there 15 minutes or 2 hours. Even though Jim was 90 I feel like it is now my turn to ask my friend, What's your hurry? But we know the answer. He is going to Heaven to be with his beloved Juanita.

We were distant cousins connected through the Spearen side of the family. I was just working on that section of the family tree recently and thought he was such a distinguished looking gentleman. God bless and keep all of the family members who are grieving. Grant them peace and comfort.

I knew Jim and loved him dearly as one of my patients at the Beckley VA Medical Center. He was a highly decorated WWII Vet with 2 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star - yet he seldom talked of the war and never complained. He was not just a patient but a delight to visit with and truth be told, he probably helped me more than I helped him. He will be sorely missed. I lost a treasure. - Rick Janney, PA-C

Jim was such a fine gentleman. We loved him and will miss him so much. I will surely miss his beautiful smile and his Sunday morning hugs. Rest in paradise, our friend, with your beautiful Juanita.

Jim & Juanita took me in and spoiled me when I went to Appalachian Bible College, which was not far away from their home in Fayetteville. They gave me a home away from home, and I loved visiting with them there, attending church with them, having Sunday dinner, taking a little nap on their day bed, sitting out on the front porch talking, or looking at Jim's beautiful paintings. Jim would give me advice and encouragement that really meant a lot. I will always count him and Juanita as a special part of my life.
