She was born March 9, 1947 to Darrell “Amos” Pennington and Imogene Davis Pennington at Kaymoor Coal Camp, WV.
She was a graduate of Fayetteville High School class of 1965, followed by an ASN from Marshall University and BSN from Old Dominion University. Her medical career included nursing, teaching, consulting and training. It concluded as Charge Nurse over the OR at the VA Hospital in Salisbury, NC. She also was an active participant on the Salisbury Leadership Team.
Preceding her in death were her father, Darrell Pennington and grandson, Alexander Franklin Wilborne. Mother, Imogene Pennington has now passed on as well, on June 30, 2025.
She is survived by sisters, Nancy Tissue (Phil) of Lansing, WV, Linda Jernigan (Henry) of Roanoke, VA and Sally Pennington (Andrew) of Lansing, WV. She is also survived by her children, Amelia “Amy” Swenson (Eric) of Luquillo, Puerto Rico, Jacob Benoff (Michelle) of Madison, GA and Ethan Benoff of Tampa, FL. Judy has 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held at Fayetteville Presbyterian Church Tuesday, July 1, 2025, with visitation at 12:30 P.M. and services at 1:00 P.M. She has been interred in the family plot at Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville, WV.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of Judith Ann Pennington be made to either Fayetteville Presbyterian Church or Hospice of Southern WV.
