Mae Fern Reedy Workman passed away peacefully on April 15, 2018 surrounded by her family. Born August 5, 1929, in Clay County, she was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Laird Reedy and Ocie Opal Osborne Reedy, sisters June George and Nancy Legg, and brother, Lanzo “Poppy” Moore.
Mae was a 1948 graduate of Clay County High School. She attended Fayetteville Baptist Church. Mae spent many happy years providing day care for the children of working parents in Fayetteville. She was a long-time member of La Fayette Post 149 of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary, having served as Vice-President and President. Mae was extremely proud of the time she spent mentoring young women as a volunteer counselor at ALA WV Rhododendron Girls State.
Sixty-six years ago, she married the love of her life, Damon Workman, who passed away in December 2017. She leaves behind their son, Eddie (Nancy) of Fayetteville, and one sister, Hazel Reedy Shearer, of Bickmore. Mae's grandsons, Seth (Melissa) and Luke (Katie) of Fayetteville, and Jesse of Huntington, mourn her loss, along with Amaya, Deacon and Lacee, her great-grandchildren. Mae was fortunate to have been cared for by six special angels: Amanda, Annette, Carol, Ginny, Saundra and Tammy. The Workman Family appreciates Dr. Jessica F. Swank, the nurses at Hospice of Southern WV, and the staff and nurses at Bowers Hospice House for the care they provided to Mae and her family.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2018, at Fayetteville Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Visitation will begin at 12 p.m. Funeral services will be presented by Pastor Ron George Jr, Rev. David Sneed and Pastor Mack Canterbury, with special hymn by Saundra Tucker. Graveside services will follow at Fayetteville Huse Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to Hospice of Southern WV, PO Box 1472, Beckley WV 25802-1472.
