Miguel Angelo Hernandez, 86 of Fayetteville, WV passed away on January 3, 2024 in Hospice Care. He was born on June 8, 1937 in Guayama, Puerto Rico. He was born to Angel and Antonia Hernandez. He moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was 10 years old.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances, his mother, father and sister, Lucy. He is survived by 4 sons; Michael (Tina) of Fayetteville, WV ; Anthony(Lisa) of Tampa, Fl ; Mark (Stephanie) of Ponte Vedra, Fl and Steven(Denise) of Bay Shore, NY. He is also survived by 2 brothers; Raymond (Aida) of Labelle, Fl and Angelo (Iris) of Deltona, Fl.
He enjoyed fishing, playing bingo and his family. He was a brown belt in Judo, received certification at YMCA, Brooklyn, NY. He joined the United States Navy in 1955, he served 5 years. He served at various shore stations, the high point of his career was onboard the USS Leyte (CV32), Petty Officer in deck division. He was honorably discharged in 1961. Employment included mechanic at Atlantic Pontiac, Brooklyn, NY and retired as a Transportation Department Supervisor at Long Island Lighting Company, Patchogue, NY.
He was proud of his sons, all four are college graduates. Three of the four are United States Naval Officers, of which, two graduated from the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD. He has 13 grandchildren ; Aaron, Tasha, Michael Angelo, Tyler, Hunter, Steven, Quinn, Zane, Victoria, Noah, Isabella, Brandon and Chase. He also had 7 great grandchildren; Sailor, Hayden, Cyris, Blake, Sparrow, Ava and Dominic. Lil Papa will be missed!
He will be cremated, he and his wife’s ashes will be in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. A service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
