Alberto Nelson Jones, affectionately known as Chuck was born on August 29, 1938, in the small town of Banes, Cuba, to Ruby Jones and Sidney Ramsey. The youngest of two boys, he and his brother were lovingly raised by their maternal grandparents. At the age of 10, the family moved to Guantanamo, Cuba, where Alberto studied and worked on the US Naval Base. He met and married Mavis Johanson here, and together they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Isabel Maria. His dedication to his family was unwavering, and his love for them was a guiding light in his life, shaping every decision and action.
Driven by a passion for learning and helping others, Alberto relocated to Havana, Cuba, to pursue a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. This was a testament to his determination and ambition. During this time, he remarried Regla Rosa, and they were blessed with a sweet bundle of joy, Jony Jamile. In 1980, Alberto made a life-changing move to the United States, settling in the Bronx, where he reunited with his mother, older brother Arnoldo, and nieces and nephew.
Alberto met Silvia Bailey in New York, and they married in 1984. Together, they welcomed their youngest daughter, Jennifer Joy. In 1989, the family moved to Palm Coast, Florida, where Alberto pursued his dream of owning a successful medical waste disposal company- Ortho Medical Waste Management. However, his ambitions extended far beyond business.
Alberto was a tireless humanitarian, dedicating countless hours and numerous trips to improving the lives of millions living in poverty worldwide, with a particular focus on his homeland of Cuba. His work with the Cuban American Children Foundation (CACF), Pastors for Peace, CEPRU, and other groups brought countless individuals food, clothing, and medical care. For instance, he organized a medical mission to rural areas of Cuba, providing free healthcare to those in need. His efforts were recognized on CNN Heroes, a testament to his relentless dedication to humanitarian causes that never wavered, even in the face of adversity.
After retiring in 2003, Alberto was thrilled when his wife, Silvia, could also retire. Together, they traveled the world, exploring Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. These adventures brought him immense joy and fulfillment, as traveling with Silvia was all he ever wanted.
On July 12, 2024, the Lord called Alberto home. He leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Silvia Jones, who was his constant companion and support in all his endeavors; his children, Isabel, Jony, Jennifer, and Mirelis, who were the pride and joy of his life and who he always looked to for inspiration; his grandchildren, Carlos, Arron, Majour, Gabriella, Alicia, and Nicire, who brought him immense happiness; his nieces and nephews, Jacqueline, Arnoldo, and Dania, whom he cherished as his own; his grandnieces, Claudia-Lisa and Elizabeth, whom he adored; and a host of cousins and friends whom he loved dearly.
