Bernice R. Cilek 96, of Flagler Beach, passed away on February 23, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on November 22, 1923 in Crown Point, Indiana. Bernice earned her Nursing Degree at Purdue University Indianapolis. She then worked at the Mercy Hospital in Gary, Indiana for 5 years. In 1974 she and her husband moved from Crown Point, Indiana to Flagler Beach, Florida. She continued her nursing career at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach. Went to work at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House in Flagler County for 1 year. Before retiring she worked as a visiting nurse. After retiring from nursing she spent many hours volunteering for Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity, local library and Bernice was also an artist creating paintings and drawings. She will always be remembered for her loving and giving spirit. Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of Edwin J. Cilek in 2014; Parents, Edna (Chaffee) Ebert & Howard Burkley brothers, Harold Burkley in 2018; & Gene (Ruth) Ebert, sisters,Mabel Pierce & Virginia Burkley. Survivors include her children, James E. Cilek, Annette (Danny) Russell; grandson, Thomas (Amy) Cormican; great-grandchildren, Katie Brown, Amber Deffenbaugh, Carrie Umland, Omer Holstein Jr.; great-grandchildren, Simi Brown, Justinian E. Brown, Lucas Umland, Bryce Umland; Numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Donations in her memory may be made to the Advent Health Hospice.
