Born on August 14, 1946, in Daytona Beach to the late Charles Sr. and Eleanor Lucille Martin Spano, Charles was a lifelong resident of the area he so dearly cherished. A proud graduate of Seabreeze High School, he went on to earn his master’s degree from Florida State University. Charles began his professional journey as an educator, teaching at his alma mater and sharing his passion for biology with students. He later transitioned into real estate, where he became the respected owner and operator of Southern Appraisal Corporation, dedicating many years to his work as an appraiser.
A man of boundless curiosity and adventure, Charles found joy in traveling the world, skiing down snowy slopes, and coaching his children’s tee-ball games. His commitment to service extended beyond his family, as he devoted his time and talents to the Boy Scouts of America, Indian Guides, and played an active role in the Ormond Beach community. He contributed greatly through his involvement with the Ormond Beach Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Ormond, and as a Co-Founder of Ormond Celtic Festival — endeavors that reflected his love for people, culture, music, and local traditions.
Charles’ greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, the former Patricia Lee Deloge; his three children, Charles Spano III (Chad) of Jacksonville Beach, Christopher Spano of Colorado Springs, and Allison Spano of Paisley; his beloved granddaughter, Isabella “Izzi” Mayes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his Brother, Robert Spano.
Charles will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for his family, music, and the local communities that nurtured his soul and were dessert to his ear. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, and the music he created with the band “Hard To Port”. He will be deeply missed.
-Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose. May Charles rest in God’s hands, the Almighty Father of all. We pray to the families who grieve with us and are called to do His work.
God bless you all. Charles was one - Amen
A Celebration of Life will be announced shortly for those wishing to attend with music, laughter and stories.
