Ray was born in North Carolina on August 1, 1929 and raised in the mountains of Tennessee, where he met the love of his life, Leona Sturgill. On October 26, 1948, Ray and Leona were married, and two daughters, Barbara and Betty, came soon after. If you know nothing else about Ray Davis, you would know that he loved Jesus and his wife, and that he was as stubborn as the day is long. Ray’s dedication to his wife of 77 years was so strong that he followed her in death just a few months after her departure from
this earthly plane. After leaving Tennessee, Ray then moved to Delaware, and eventually settled in Florida in 1978. There he helped his wife raise hundreds of dogs and shared the word of God
with anyone who would listen. Following in the footsteps of Jesus, Ray was a prolific carpenter, building and remodeling not only homes and other structures, but many churches as well. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others, whether those teachings were about carpentry, the Bible, or the “right” way to do things. He liked to play stringed instruments and sing, favoring Christian songs. Ray was a valued elder and deacon at Dominion Life Worship Center in Bunnell. He also enjoyed traveling, and in his younger years was fond of traveling to work or to visit friends and relatives.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Glenn Davis; two daughters, Barbara Williams and Betty Davis; a son-in-law, Mark Linton; three grandchildren, Teresa Linton, Tammy Linton, and Matthew Williams, and their spouses; five great-grandchildren; one niece and two nephews.
Family and friends will be received at Dominion Life Worship Center in Bunnell, FL on Saturday, June 20 from 1-1:30, with a memorial service from 1:30 to 3pm. Interment will follow at Flagler Memorial Gardens.
