Dan was born in 1934 along with his twin brother Donald. They joined a family of five siblings, Bill, Jim, Joann, Leo and Alice. All of whom are now deceased. James P. Broderick, an immigrant from Ireland, and Jennie Bergin were their parents.

Dan was raised in Detroit, MI, attended Detroit Catholic Central and as a cum laude graduated from the University of Detroit in 1956.

Dan served in the US Army from 1956 -1958. Married Edith Bentheimer and they raised four children Eva, Christine, Monica and Maura. Dan worked for the Internal Revenue Service where he retired receiving the Albert Gallatin Award for faithful service. Dan and Edith retired to Flagler Beach Florida in 1990. A long time supporter of public libraries he served as trustee for the Flagler County Library. He was also a volunteer tax preparer for the IRS Vita program. Edith was diagnosed with cancer in 1992 and after a long battle with the disease she died in 2001. Daughter Eva died in 2003 also with breast cancer. Surviving are Christine (Tom Niemiec), Monica(John Cantwell) and Maura(Mike Jary). Dan has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

When Dan moved to Florida he took up tennis. He was a student of Fred Weems taking classes at Wadsworth Park.

He played on teams at Bicentennial Park, Wadsworth Park, the old Florida Park as well as Halifax Plantation in the GVTL( Greater Volusia Tennis League).

In 2007 Dan married Margaret (Peggy) Kalush. Dan and Peggy loved to travel. They visited Alaska, the Canadian Rockies, Panama Canal, Costa Rica, trips to Russia, Istanbul, Greek Islands, Rome and Athens as well as the Caribbean Area. Their favorite trip was to the Australian Grand Slam in 2011. Dan in his latter years suffered with Neuropathy in his legs and had to forego tennis.

Dan was a life long Roman Catholic and wishes that his final Good-Bye be with services at St. Joseph Carmelite Monastery in Korona. He was a supporter of the St. Joseph Carmelite Monastery.
