Dorothy P. Vernier, 95, of Palm Coast, Florida, was peacefully called to heaven on May 19, 2020. She was born on July 19, 1924 to Hugh C. and Sylvia Wells Eccleston in Ashaway, Rhode Island. Dorothy graduated from Westerly High School in 1942. She graduated from Rhode Island Community College in 1985 with a Phi Theta Kappa Associates in Business. Dorothy married Edward Tarbox III, Sgt Major on August 31, 1946. Sgt Major Tarbox passed away April 26, 1974. Dorothy and Edward had two children, Dale Suzanne Tarbox and David Theodore Tarbox. David passed away February 15, 2009. Miss Dorothy married Carleton Vernier on April 2, 1980. Carleton Vernier passed away July 12, 1992. Between 1964 to 1986, Dorothy worked as Director of Admissions at Westerly Hospital, in Westerly Rhode Island, was the Medical Secretary of Radiology at Westerly Hospital for three years, worked at the Little Company of Mary Hospital in Chicago, IL for two years, and was at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso, Texas for three years. In 1988, Dorothy moved to Palm Coast, Florida. She volunteered for the Flagler Humane Society for 25 years, 17 of those years was Secretary then Assistant Treasurer on the Board of Directors. She is survived by her daughter, Dale Suzanne Tarbox, her cousin Myra Geoghan of Palm Coast, Florida. Dorothy’s loving companion, James C. Stephens, who was her rock since 2000, preceded her in death. Dorothy loved animals especially her beloved, Timmy, Skippy, Meryl Streep, Lovee and Buddy who were all adopted from the Flagler Humane Society and many other before she moved to Palm Coast. Miss Dorothy attended the Central Baptist Church in Westerly, Rhode Island. The interment of Dorothy P. Vernier will be at River Bend Cemetery in Westerly, Rhode Island.
