Doug is survived by his wife Kathy of 38 years but on his arm for 54. His daughter Major Leah Steder, son Jesse Steder, and daughter, mom of 3 Miya (Blasingame). Two Granddaughters Landyn and Adisyn and Grandson Caleb. Doug was a loving, supportive, hardworking, friend, husband, father and the best Donald Duck talking grandpa.
Doug loved his sports and the mountains away from all the riff raft, to enjoy all the mountains have to offer, skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, boating, golfing, you name it he dabbled in it. Doug would always say build a life you don’t want to leave from and that was exactly what him and his wife built in Grand County, Co for the two of them and their 3 children. A home with a million dollar view, tucked in an aspen grove in-between three lakes in the Rocky Mountains with a barn full of the best toys and a yard full of beauty. You could always find him in the yard or barn with his music blaring and could count on a couple factious remarks while playing pool or back gammon or some other game.
Doug was born in Dixon IL in 1950, when him and Kathy moved to Grand County, Co in 79 after graduating college at River Falls University in WI eager to start building their forever home. They married each other on their deck over looking the mountains and lakes July, summer of 84.
Doug became a licensed contractor back in the mid 70’s in WI and used that skill to run and own his own construction business, Steder Construction for years until he became a full time sales rep at Alpine Lumber in 98 living off the quote, “you can’t pay for experience,” for the next 11 years before he retired and began working part time at Pole Creek Golf Course and Highland Lumber and fully retiring in 2013.
After retirement Doug and Kathy enjoyed summers in Co and winters in FL living the best of both worlds until summer 2021 when they sold their Colorado home and became full time residents of FL, being closer to their kids and grandchildren.
The family is not having a memorial service but will be taking a trip to honor their loved one by spreading his ashes in a few of his favorite places. They will share a future time while back in the mountains to celebrate with friends. We the family, thank you for all who have reached out and played a special part in Dougs life.
Many have asked where they could send a card and the best address would be to
