

Earl had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was clever and witty, and never went anywhere without making a friend. Would it surprise you to know Earl was a Detroit Fire Department Clown for 6 years?
His legacy is inspired by his humor and spirit, gained through his life experiences as a Detroit Firefighter Arson Captain, Founding Father of the Warthog Motorcycle Club, team leader of the Right Whale Club, and many other organizations. During his professional life, he received numerous citations, meritorious awards and medals of valor. People who knew Earl had a profound respect for his keen intelligence. Earl’s hobbies, including fishing, hunting, boating, traveling, golfing and motorcycling exemplified his adventurous spirit.
Earl received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Michigan University. During his career, he attended several academies, to include the Detroit Police Academy, Detroit Fire Fighting Department Academy, Detroit Undercover School and the prestigious FBI Academy in Quantico. He served 14 years on the Fire Department and 21 years on the Arson Squad.
So many lives were touched by Earl’s friendliness, humor, kindness and thoughtfulness. All these characteristics definitely captures the essence of Earl’s life in a celebratory way. His unexpected departure leaves a void in our lives, yet we know we will find solace in knowing that he brought so much joy to those who knew him.
Earl is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Marlene (Murray) Sanders of 33 years, and numerous family members. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Earl L. and Doris Sanders.
A Celebration of Life is being held at the Craig - Flagler Palms Coast Funeral Home, Flagler Beach, FL on March 7, 2025, starting at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow the service.
