

Eugene “Gene” Engholm, 88, of Ormond Beach, FL passed away on December 8, 2017. Gene was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to the late Eugene and Hanna Engholm. He was a wanderer and spent his 20’s and early 30’s chasing adventure. This included playing baseball with the New York Yankees farm team, serving in the United States Army and driving across the country every summer for 9 years to work construction and on a fishing boat in Alaska. He settled in Florida for good in 1962 when he married Sheila Emerson. He began working for Perini Land and Development and remained with them for 22 years until his retirement. The couple made residences in West Palm Beach and Ormond Beach and spent many diving seasons in the Florida Keys, where Gene found great enjoyment lobster diving and fishing from their boat, Happy Ours. Upon retirement, they also made a home in Blairsville, Georgia where they enjoyed many rounds of golf and sitting on the back porch with their dog, Morgan. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sheila Engholm; his daughter Debbie (Dan) Saavedra; his son Gene, Jr. (Amy) Engholm; his 7 grandchildren Larry (Heather), Nicole, Carol, Danny, Jack, Bobby and Mark; his beloved dog Morgan and Dori.
