

Fred was born on April 11th, 1933, in Philadelphia to Frederick and Mary Koppenhafer. He graduated from Villanova University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics. He volunteered in the US Army and received his honorable discharge in 1958. He served in the US Coast Guard Reserve from 1959 to 1974 retiring as a Commander. In 1959 he began working for the Federal Government in various roles as Auditor and Chief Auditor for the US Department of Commerce. In 1962 he married Mary Wright. They raised one son, Michael, and three daughters Kristine, Kathleen, and Maureen. He was married to Clair O’Neil from 1994 to 2003 and he married Joanne Moore in 2007 until his passing.
Fred cared deeply for the poor and volunteered in many roles to aid the disadvantaged. He was a volunteer and board member of Martha’s Table in Washington DC, Collier Harvest in Naples, Florida, and a financial counselor to underprivileged. He was proud of his career in the military and served as the president of the ROA (Retired Officers Association) while in Florida.
Fred was a devout Catholic and was very active in the Catholic Church. He served as an altar boy as a teenager and continued to be active in the Church until the time of his passing.
Fred was preceded in death by his Father Frederick, his mother Mary, and his brother Robert. He is survived by his wife Joanne, his four children Kris, Mike, Kathleen, Maureen, his sister Mary Lou, seven grandchildren and several nieces.
A funeral service will be held in his honor on Thursday August 12th. Both the 10am viewing and 11am Mass will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Palm Coast. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Family Renew Community (www.familyrenew.org) or Martha’s Table (www.marthastable.org) in Washington, DC.
