George Donald Wellings (Don), husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was born October 23,1932, the middle child of George and Lillian Wellings in Detroit, Michigan. Don served his country in the United States Army from 1955-57 and retired from Ford Motor Company back in 1991 after 30 years. He was a Mason for 54 years and was a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rites, as well as joining his wife in the Order of the Eastern Star for 15 years. His greatest accomplishment though was his family, he and Margaret (his wife of 61 years) had four children, 2 girls and 2 boys. He was an active father supporting the boys baseball and rowing teams and was always present at local football games to watch his daughters twirl and cheer. He tended to be a quiet serious man, although after he retired he became a great storyteller especially to his 12 grandchildren, much to the amazement of his four children. Retirement brought a peace and creativeness to our father he was a very gifted and talented man in his latter life he enjoyed drawing, painting and wood-carving. He also took up golfing for several years and got a hole in one at his local Club. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in late summer 2009 and began a very different and challenging journey, he passed away July 7, 2019 due to complications of the disease.
