Red served his country in the USMC during World War 2. He was very active in the Bay Shore Fire Department in Bay Shore, New York for most of his life. He was a past Captain in the Penataquit Hose Company and later was elected to the board of Fire Commissioners for Bay Shore. He was also a Past Commander of the American Legion Post 365 in Bay Shore, NY and Post 115 in Palm Coast, FL. He was the head District Bus Driver in Bay Shore for 38 years and carried many Bay Shore students on his bus who now have children and grandchildren of their own. His fondest memories were the children who boarded his bus everyday as he taught them to sing songs on their way to school. After moving to Florida in 1992 he was active in the Marine Corps League Detachment #876 in Palm Coast and was elected Commander for three terms. He was an avid wood worker, poet and musician. He lived his life to the fullest and in his words “Oh, what life I had!”
He is survived by his Son Donald Gensch, daughter Marie Runels, Michael Gensch, Daniel Gensch and Timothy Gensch. He also leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers please make a donation to St Judes Children’s Hospital in his name.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, May 8, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home in Flagler Beach, where services will be held at 12:00 PM.
