James "Jim" Selden Doggett, 61, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2024, at his home surrounded by his beloved family. Born on March 18, 1963, in Syracuse, New York, Jim was the son of the late Frederick and Jean Doggett.
Jim's journey in education began at Cicero-North Syracuse High School, where he graduated in 1981. He furthered his studies at Onondaga College, earning a criminal justice degree. His passion for law enforcement led him to the Daytona State College Law Enforcement Certificate Program, where he was part of its inaugural graduating class in 1986. This marked the beginning of a distinguished career in service to his community.
Jim served with dedication and honor in various law enforcement agencies, including the Port Orange Police Department, Flagler Beach Police Department, Bunnell Police Department, Ormond Beach Police Department, and most recently, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. His commitment to public safety spanned decades, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to protecting others.
Beyond his career, Jim was deeply involved in his faith and community. He was a member of the Order of St. Vincent's and served as a subdeacon at St. Peter's Anglican Church in East Palatka. Recently honored as an honorary Chaplain for the Flagler County Sheriff's Office, Jim found immense fulfillment in supporting and guiding others through their journeys.
Jim's interests were diverse and reflected his vibrant personality. He enjoyed spending time hiking, exploring lighthouses, fishing, bowling, expanding his knowledge on history and relishing culinary experiences as a self-described "foodie". However, Jim's greatest joy was found in the company of his family, especially his grandchildren, whom he cherished dearly.
Jim is preceded in death by his brother, William Armstrong Doggett, and is survived by his loving wife, Donna Flanagan; his sons, Steven Doggett and Sean Doggett; his daughter, Kristyleigh (Michael) Fanelli; his grandchildren, Francesca, Mikey, and Gio Fanelli; his sister, Meg Conti; his brother, John Doggett; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and law enforcement colleagues who admired and respected him deeply.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jim's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Tunnel To Towers Foundation, organizations close to his heart. Jim Doggett's legacy of service, compassion, and love for his family and community will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered.
