Mr. Cappello was born October 23, 1956 in North Tarrytown, New York, a son of John and Lillian (Jussay) Cappello.
John graduated from Sleepy Hollow High School, where he played football, then went on to become a police officer. He had the honor to serve the villages of North Tarrytown and Ossining, New York for over 20 years. He retired and in December of 2001, moved with his family to Palm Coast. John had the house of his dreams built for his family. He enjoyed scuba diving, gardening, riding his Harley Davidson, target shooting, cheering for the Florida Gators, the New York Yankees and Giants. Cooking, cruises with his friends, going to the beach and most of all spending time with his family especially with his granddaughter Emma were some of John’s favorites. John aka Papa John was the guy that could fix and take care of everything.
John is survived by his wife of 41 years, the former Laura McLaughlin, whom he married October 6, 1979. Two sons, Brian J. Cappello of Deland, and Daniel J. Cappello of West Palm Beach. His granddaughter, Emma Cappello of Deland; two brothers, Paul (Jennifer) Cappello of Tennessee, and David (Christina) Cappello of Puerto Rico; he also leaves his sister-in-law Karen McLaughlin of Palm Coast, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Michelle Scaperotti.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, November 21, 2020 from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
