Born on April 24, 1940, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Jose Vazquez and Virginia Ferrer. Meche was a highly skilled and sought-after fashion designer, known for her exquisite creations. She designed many of the gowns for the Damas en las fiestas patronalez across the island, and her legacy lives on through dresses that have been cherished and passed down through generations.
A passionate New York Yankees fan, Meche could often be heard cheering and shouting at the television. She also had a love for music and played the flute during her school years. Meche met and married Leonides Ortiz, with whom she had two children. They shared 20 years of marriage.
Meche was preceded in death by her brothers, Jose Ramon Vazquez and Victor Naszario Vazquez. She is survived by her children, Hector Ramon Ortiz Vazquez and Glenda Mercedes Ortiz Vazquez; her grandchildren, Yoalivette, Naomi, Yomarie, and Hector Gabriel Ortiz; her great-grandchildren, Yuriel Ortiz, Eva Sofia Santander, Thiago Alexander Santander, and Emilia Giselle Ortiz; and many other loving relatives and friends. In honor of her memory, donations may be made to the St. Gerard Campus. Interment will take place in the near future at Cementerio La Paz Del Senor in Aibonito, Puerto Rico.
