Mark Allen Shearer, 61, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, at Advent Hospice Center, surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born to Donal and Patricia Shearer on March 12, 1965, in Peoria, Illinois, Mark chose to make his home in Palm Coast with his beloved wife, Lorie.
Mark never missed an opportunity, and when he first set eyes on Lorie at their favorite biker bar, he didn’t waste any time and quickly made an impression. One of Lorie’s favorite early dating memories was receiving a text from Mark that read, “God finally sent me the person I’ve been looking for my whole life.” From that moment on, they were inseparable. The couple married on November 20, 2010, with Mark wearing his traditional Scottish kilt. They shared many happy years together, creating a life full of love, laughter, and cherished memories, especially while visiting the Florida Keys. Mark often called family to tell them how at peace he felt when he was there.
To his three generations of nieces and nephews, Mark was known as “the cool uncle.” He could always be found playing guitar or banjo in the family band, showing up for spontaneous fishing trips, and taking his nieces and nephews on their first motorcycle rides on his Harley. He traveled to many family weddings dressed in a Harley Davidson T-shirt, leather jacket, and sometimes even his Scottish kilt to play his signature bagpipe sendoff.
Mark was also a hard worker. He was a skilled drywall finisher who took pride in every project he took on. His coworkers affectionately gave him the nickname "Tío"—Spanish for "uncle" a reflection of the warmth, guidance, and friendship he offered to everyone around him.
In his later years, Mark's faith in Jesus Christ grew deeper through watching "The Chosen," strengthening the hope and peace that sustained him through life's final chapter. Fittingly, Mark was named after Jesus’ apostle from the gospels, and came to cherish that connection as his faith matured.
As a husband, brother, uncle, and friend, Mark will be remembered as a man who was larger than life, fiercely loyal to those he loved, and impossible to forget.
Mark is survived by his wife Lorie Shearer, his brothers Doug (Diane) and Steve (Maura) Shearer, his sisters Renee (John) Lynch, Leslie (Robert) Ballard, and Kate (Mike) Shopf, and his many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-siblings Brenda Lance and Virgil Philips, nephew Ryan Armstrong, niece Sarah Shearer, and great-nephew Henrik Aubrey.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial on Sunday, June 28, at 3:00 p.m (Service to begin at 4:00 p.m) at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South, Flagler Beach, Florida 32136.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating money to Lorie to offset the cost of Mark’s medical bills.
