Matteo Michael Montemarano peacefully entered into the eternal rest of the loving arms of our Savior on June 24, 2025. He was 99 years old, four months away from his 100th birthday. Matteo was born in Brooklyn, New York to Anthony and Rose (nee DeSanto) Montemarano and was the youngest of their seven children: William, Pasquale, Gennaro, Thomas, Catherine, and Mary.
Matteo proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was the recipient of a Purple Heart and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a machinist by trade for over 40 years. In 1960, he married his sweetheart Marie (nee Coluccio) and the two raised their family while living in Hackettstown, New Jersey for over 35 years. They retired to Flagler Beach, Florida in 2001 where they enjoyed their retirement years in their active adult community. They made many friends and cherished memories in their years living there. Matteo was a resident of Sunrise Senior Living in Randolph, New Jersey for the last 18 months of his life. This enabled him to be close to family in his final years.
Matteo (Pops) was predeceased (2020) by his devoted wife of 60 years Marie. He is survived by his loving daughters Barbara Murray (Michael) of Mount Arlington, New Jersey and Kathryn Carrington of Scarborough, Maine.
All of his grandchildren – Patrick, Michael, Juliet, Anthony, Alexa, and Natasha – loved their Pops dearly and will greatly miss him. Patrick shared a special bond with Pops and watched over him in his final years of life. Pops had three great grandchildren, including Paulo, who loved his spaghetti and meatball dinners and watching TV with him.
Matteo touched the lives of many with his warm spirit, smile, and outgoing personality. He remained active until his passing. He loved tending to his garden, cooking, woodworking, billiards, bocce, and especially dancing. He was a man of deep faith and always believed God was at his side throughout his life.
Matteo was a parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bunnell, Florida during his residence in the state. There he enjoyed the fellowship of many wonderful friends.
