MICKEY WORKED FOR THE WHIPPANY PAPER BOARD 1936 TO 1942 THEN ENLISTED IN THE ARMY 5/9/42 @ AGE 23 - BASIC TRAINING IN S.C. - INFANTRY TRNG @ AUGUSTA, GA. / FT DIX, NJ / AMPHIBIOUS TRAINING FL PANHANDLE.
1/17/44 BOARDED TROOP SHIP IN NY - 10 DAYS - NORTH ATLANTIC TO LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - TRAINED THERE UNTIL D-DAY. REMEMBERS "SLAPTON SANDS".
LANDED ON UTAH BEACH - 4TH INF DIV / 8TH INF REG AND LIBERATED PORT OF CHERBOURG AFTER 13 DAYS (was supposed to take 3) THEN FOUGHT ON TO LIBERATE PARIS CIRCLING THE CITY WHILE ANOTHER DIVISION MARCHED IN THE CITY.
FOUGHT FRONT LINES ALL 11 MONTHS THROUGH FRANCE, BELGIUM, BATTLE OF THE BULGE, INTO GERMANY AND WAS HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS 1ST SGT OCT 1945 RETURNING TO N.J AND CONTINUING @ WHIPPANY PAPER BOARD, LATER THE BAXTER CORP IN PATTERSON, FIRST IRON BANK IN MORRISTOWN, AND RETIRING AS AN AUDITOR FROM MORRIS COUNTY SAVINGS BANK IN 1987.
MICKEY JOINED THE CEDAR KNOLLS FIRE DEPT. NOV. 1946 AND BECAME AN EXEMPT MEMBER IN 1959 – ALSO SERVING AS DEPT. TREASURER AND ON THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS.
MARRIED HELEN SAWKA MAY 7, 1949 – PURCHASED HOME ON FREDERICK PL. IN CEDAR KNOLLS, N.J IN 1952. SON, GARY MICHAEL, BORN 1955 @ MORRISTOWN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL.
AFTER RETIREMENT IN 1987 JOINED SON GARY AND FAMILY IN SULTAN, WA THEN SETTLED IN PALM COAST FL IN 1992 WITH WIFE HELEN. MEMBER AMERICAN LEGION POST 0115 BUNNELL, FL.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY BELOVED WIFE HELEN AFTER 65 YEARS OF MARRAIGE.
CURRENTLY RESIDED WITH SON GARY AND DAUGHTER-IN-LAW KATHY IN PALM COAST.
