Nestor David Acosta

Néstor nació en Junín, Cundinamarca, Colombia, el 23 de noviembre de 1944. Fue el segundo de catorce hijos de Baudilio y Adela Acosta. Después de terminar la secundaria, estudió en el Instituto Cartográfico de Colombia. En 1968 se casó con Fanny Hayde. Ese mismo año emigró a los Estados Unidos con su esposa, ya que le habían ofrecido un trabajo en la empresa de cartografía Aeroservices.

Se establecieron en Filadelfia y tuvieron tres hijos: Diana Hayde (Jorge), Claudia Patricia (Jeff) y Nestor Mauricio (Kristen). Durante su carrera profesional trabajó para varias empresas en diversos lugares, como California, Puerto Rico, Nueva Jersey, Virginia y Florida.

Néstor sirvió en el Ejército colombiano y en la Reserva del Ejército de los Estados Unidos, alcanzando el rango de especialista (E4). Fue un hombre muy patriótico.

En su tiempo libre, disfrutaba tocando música folclórica colombiana y se la enseñó a sus hijos, criándolos en la cultura colombiana. Expresó su amor por la música tocando instrumentos de cuerda, como la guitarra, el tiple y la bandola, entre otros. Le gustaba la jardinería, incluyendo árboles, plantas, frutas y verduras, ¡e incluso les enseñó a sus hijos a sembrar un aguacate con palillos de dientes! Néstor también disfrutaba de muchas actividades al aire libre, como la pesca y el ciclismo. Era una persona muy familiar, a menudo hacía barbacoas y organizaba noches de juegos.

Néstor y Fanny se jubilaron y se mudaron a Palm Coast, Florida, en 2014. Pasaban mucho tiempo con sus familiares y amigos, tanto de Filadelfia como de Palm Coast. Él era muy devoto de su fe católica y participaba activamente en su parroquia, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, como miembro del grupo de oración Sal y Luz, los Knights of Columbus y la Divina Misericordia.

A Nestor le encantaba el tiempo que pasaba con sus siete nietos: Juan Nestor, David Wayne, Nolan Andres, Alana Marie, Thomas Nestor, Diego Alejandro y Cara Grace. Le emocionó mucho la llegada de su primer bisnieto, Matthew David James Southworth. También tenía una relación muy cercana con muchos de sus sobrinos y sobrinas, con quienes disfrutaba mucho pasar tiempo.

A Néstor le sobrevive su esposa, Fanny, con quien compartió casi 59 años de matrimonio. Deja atrás a familiares en Colombia y los Estados Unidos, quienes fueron conmovidos por su sabiduría, amor, espiritualidad y música. Muchos han destacado su carisma, bondad y consideración. Néstor era conocido por recibir a todos como si fueran de su familia.

Todos están invitados a celebrar la vida de Nestor David en St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 4600 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast, FL, el miércoles 9 de septiembre a partir de las 10:00 a. m. para un servicio conmemorativo seguido de una misa a las 11:00 a. m.

Nestor was born in Junin, Cundinamarca Colombia on November 23, 1944. He was the second oldest of 14 children born to Baudilio and Adela Acosta. After high school, Nestor studied in the Cartographical Institute in Colombia. He got married in 1968 to Fanny Hayde. That same year he came to the United States with his wife since he was offered a job with a mapping company called Aeroservices.

They settled in Philadelphia and had three children, Diana Hayde (Jorge), Claudia Patricia (Jeff), and Nestor Maurico Acosta (Kristen). During his career he worked for several companies in various places including California, Puerto Rico, New Jersey, Virginia, and Florida.

Nestor served in both the Colombian Army and United States Army Reserve leaving with the rank of Specialist. He was a very patriotic American and Colombian.

In his spare time, he enjoyed playing folkloric Colombian music and taught it to his children, raising them in the Colombian culture. He expressed his love for music through various string instruments featuring the guitar, tiple, and bandola among others. He enjoyed gardening, including trees, plants, fruits, and vegetables, even teaching his own children how to propagate an avocado with toothpicks! Nestor also enjoyed many outdoor activities such as fishing and biking. He was very family-oriented, often seen grilling and hosting game nights.

Nestor and Fanny retired to Palm Coast, Florida in 2013. They spend much time with their family and friends, both from Philadelphia and Palm Coast. He was devout in his Catholic faith and very active in his parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, as a member of the Sal y Luz prayer group, the Knights of Columbus, and Divine Mercy.

Nestor cherished time spent with his seven grandchildren, Juan Nestor, David Wayne, Nolan Andres, Alana Marie, Thomas Nestor, Diego Alejandro, and Cara Grace. He was thrilled to welcome his first great grandchild, Matthew David James Southworth. He was also very close with many of his nieces and nephews, enjoying spending time with them.

Nestor is survived by his wife, Fanny, with whom he shared close to 59 years of marriage. He leaves behind family in both Colombia and the United States who have all been touched by his knowledge, love, spirituality, and music. Many people have spoken to what a charismatic, kindhearted, and thoughtful person he was. Nestor was known for welcoming everyone as if they were family.

All are invited to celebrate the life of Nestor David at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, 4600 Belle Terre Pkwy, Palm Coast, FL on Wednesday, September 9th starting at 10am for a memorial followed by a mass at 11am.
