12/31/71 - 10/18/25
Raquel Millan, daughter, sister, healer, creative writer, loving partner, and Sri Mātā Amritānandamayī Devi devotee, passed away on October 18, 2025 after a courageous three year battle with cancer.
Raquel was born on New Years Eve 1971 and raised in the Bronx, New York. She was the daughter of Fernando Millan (deceased) and Angela Rodriquez; sister Jennie Millan, and brothers Freddie Millan, Robert Millan, Louis Millan, Robert Gonzales.
Raquel was recognized very early in life for her exceptional intellect. She was awarded a full scholarship to the prestigious Milton Academy in Milton Massachusetts. At Milton, she excelled academically and graduated valedictorian of her class. She was among the most popular students for her humor, kindness, and infectious personality. After graduating Milton, she attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, California.
Searching for her passion, Raquel became a dedicated yoga practitioner and teacher. She soon found her calling in massage therapy, as a healer. She built a very dedicated list of clients who recognized her abilities and were forever grateful for the pain relief, giving them back their lives.
Along her journey she found “the hugging saint” Amma and dedicated much time to studying the teachings of Amma. Her spirituality and humanity blossomed with her experience, and she was given the devotee name of Smita, meaning “smiling” and “the one who gives happiness”.
Raquel was a lover of animals. In 2020 she and her devoted partner, Greg Mckean, rescued a Plott hound from South Carolina, Charlie Boy. Her affection and patience with his hyper behavior, led to Charlie Boy’s strong bond with Raquel. He spent her last few years bringing her comfort and staying by her side.
In 2022 she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. Raquel and Greg set out on a long journey battling cancer and took one last adventure across the country, moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico. Raquel felt a strong spiritual pull to the dessert and was close to the Amma center in Santa Fe.
As her condition deteriorated she moved to Florida and lived with Greg’s family for the last six months of her life. She loved the Latin food in Florida and would spend many hours listening to the waves from her favorite hangout, Dulce De Leche Cafe, enjoying Churros and Cortaditos.
She will be deeply missed by everyone whose life was enriched by her generous, kind and loving personality.
