Mr. Smith was born September 16, 1930 in Kenosha, WI., a son of Richard & Dorothy Granger Smith.
He was raised up and down the east coast, and graduated high school in Winchester, MA. Following his graduation, he attended Norwich University in Northfield, VT., and received twelve letters in sports. Mr. Smith graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He then enlisted in the United States Army, where he received the National Defense Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1954 as a 1st Lieutenant. Mr. Smith had a very successful career in the home furnishing industry, and retired in 1995. Mr. Smith was a member of Halifax Plantation Golf Club, and enjoyed sports.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, the former Betty A. Prachar, whom he married July 15, 1979. Five children, Jeffry (Kyrsten) Smith of Salt Lake City UT., Gray (Cynthia) Smith of Salt Lake City UT., Roger (Margaret) Smith of Jackson WY., Jennifer (Tracy) Byers of Douglasville, GA., and Michael (Sherry) Pracher. Ten grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
