ROBERT P. KELLY (June 17, 1941- August 1, 2020) of Ormond Beach, FL, originally from Valley Stream, New York, passed away from a battle with cancer on August 1st, with his beloved wife of 50 years, Ellyn M. Kelly, at his side.
Those who knew Bob knew his opinions, sense of humor, notoriously bland palette, incredible ability to calculate numbers in his head, love of cruises and travel, and faithful adoration of his wife. In recent years, he and Ellyn enjoyed several trans-Atlantic cruises from Barcelona and Lisbon, as well as a trans-Pacific cruise that had them island-hopping from Australia. It was to the sound of these memories that he left this world.
Bob was an honest man and a hard worker who put himself through Queens College before meeting Ellyn when they both worked at Shell Oil Co. in New York. They married April 4, 1970, in St. Raymond’s Church in the Bronx, NY. They moved to central Connecticut shortly afterward where Bob worked in data processing for the Travelers Insurance Company. He retired early as a Second Vice-President. Bob’s bright mind, persistent curiosity, and facility for all things numerical led him to become licenced as a Series 7 stockbroker, and later as a CPA and real estate agent in Connecticut. Also, on a lark, Bob professionally trained and worked as a blackjack dealer at Foxwoods casino when it first opened 23 years ago.
Bob leaves behind a daughter, Michael-Ann Cerniglia, of Sewickley, PA, her husband David Cerniglia, and their daughters Emerson (14) and Auden (10); his son, Ryan, of Glastonbury, CT, and his children Addison (8) and Callan (5). Bob’s grandchildren gave him endless joy and will miss his hugs, kisses, snuggles, and sugary treats.
Bob’s passing is also mourned by his sister-in-law Jane E. McPike of Middletown, NY. Bob was predeceased by his father William T. Kelly, his mother Rose (Roddy) Kelly, his older brother, Bill, younger brother, Tony, and sister-in-law Rose Kelly. Beloved by the Scottie’s gang, Traveler’s co-workers, and Connecticut neighbors, Bob celebrated friendships that were a lifetime long and belly-laughs deep.
This childhood altar boy from Saint Boniface Church in Valley Stream, NY, will be laid to rest in their cemetery at a future date, beside his mother and father. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Halifax Health Hospice, 3800 Woodbriar Trail, Port Orange, FL 32129.
