Born on July 11, 1956, in Waltham, Massachusetts, Susan was the daughter of the late John Russell and Carole Louise Smith. She was raised in DeLand, Florida, where she graduated from DeLand High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Central Florida.
Susan dedicated 26 years of her life to teaching in the Flagler County school system, where she touched countless young lives with her kindness, patience, and creativity. Her love of art and music shone through in her classroom and at home, inspiring her students and children alike.
In July of 1978, Susan married the love of her life, Stewart Maxcy. Together, they shared 47 wonderful years and raised three beloved children: Patrick, Stephen, and Marissa. Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
Susan’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the love she gave will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday November 15, 11:30 am at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home. Friends may visit on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am.
