Thomas Joseph Liston

Captain Thomas Joseph Liston 85, of Palm Coast passed away peacefully on May 9, 2018 at his home with his family at his side. He was born on June 1, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to the late John Gregory and Elizabeth Liston (Spearman). Thomas served in US Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 3, 1957 he married Catherine Canny and they raised 5 children. Thomas served as a NYC Police Officer for about 1 year and realized his true calling as a Fireman. He joined the FDNY and served 25 years where he rose to the rank of Captain with Engine Company #74 upper Westside Manhattan. Upon his retirement in 1982 he and his wife moved to the Palm Coast area. His memberships included the Elks Cub, VFW, Distinguished Order of the Grand Giraffe, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, Central Florida Retired Fire Fighters, VFW Post 8696 in Palm Coast, Kentucky Colonel, 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Corpus Christi Assembly, and he also volunteered at St. Gerard's House in St. Augustine. He and his wife Catherine enjoyed traveling Europe visiting relatives in Ireland and Scotland, the states and entertaining. Donations may be made to Prader Willi Syndrome Association in Memory of Captain Thomas J. Liston FDNY. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Catherine Liston; children, Louise Liston, Mary (Larry) Severson, Anne Liston, Tommy (Elisabeth) Liston, Sean (Linda) Liston; grandchildren, Marie Matthews, Kerri Severson, Steele Severson, Heather Severson, Brendan Arp, Sean Liam Liston, Patrick John Liston; great-granddaughter, Mazzy Smith; sister, Elizabeth "Betsy" Libby. Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 5:00PM-8:00PM at the chapel of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home.
