My Grandpa was a superhero. He helped me with my homework. He also took me to my appointments, like when I had braces. He loved when I sang. He always had a smile on his face. When he was in the nursing home, Mom would bring him frosted lemonade from Chic fil a and he loved it. When Mom took it away, he would say give me that. He always was such a ham and parties were a blast when he was there. Always wanted to dance and be the life of the party. Singing made him happy and I enjoyed listening to him. I would sing along with him. He may be gone, but he will always be in my heart. I'm going to miss him dearly. I love you Grandpa!

Grandpa was like a dad to me, my parents divorced when I was young. During the custody battle I’d stay at my grandparents house where I always felt safe with grandpa around. He loved watching me shop at Penney’s.  I told him he didn’t have to follow me, It must be boring.  He smiled “Not at all. “ Said I looked like a girl on a mission shopping for bargains at the clearance racks. “I’m right here, go do your thing, I’ll make sure nobody bothers you.” Loved going on vacation with him. Once Wimbledon was playing and I’d watch with him. I didn’t get the game just enjoyed being with him. Tried teaching me but I was bad at it. Chess too, so we played checkers with chess pieces instead.  On cruises he always wanted to dance. If he didn’t like a song he’d wait for the next one or go to another club with better dance music. My mom, sisters and mama would take turns dancing with him. He never tired, he could have danced forever. He called me his packing buddy since I helped him unpack/repack the car. With 6 people traveling I got stuck cramped in the back with the suitcases. Grandpa kept checking if everything was ok back there, worried if I was comfortable. He took a picture to show how much of a trooper I was. He’d take me to the orthodontist. I tried to convince him I didn’t want it. He said “if you ask me there’s nothing wrong with your smile it just means your smile will get prettier than it already is.” Got them off just in time for prom. He said “What did I tell  you? I promised you would have a prettier smile.” When I started baking cheesecakes I would make one on his birthday or special occasions. I would ask grandpa “do you like it I made it with lots of love” He would smile and say “oh no wonder it tastes so good” and give me a kiss and a hug.  I love you grandpa, I miss you so much but I’ll remember all our stories together. You were the best Dad/grandpa a girl could ever ask for. Now my sister Nicole gets to experience the same love you gave me up in heaven.


Grandpa was always a storyteller, like telling me the story of Goldie locks and the 3 bears while my sisters and I ate our oatmeal at breakfast, voices and all. Stories of when he was younger like being one of the first to use Penicillin or sending Ruby up the stairs with the groceries. Or a story about me when I was born premature and the doctors were poking at me to find a vein, I made a fist at them and he goes she’s a fighter. He was very supportive, driving me to an art supply store to encourage my drawing. We shared similar interest like reading and a love of animals. He tried to teach me to play chess or to become a tennis pro, but I wasn’t very good at either. When we moved from Puerto Rico to Florida, he was always a phone call away. He sent me National Geographic kids magazines, and I eagerly awaited each one and I still have them to this day. I also have all the books and cards he gave me with their heartfelt messages, which I will treasure always. He was always taking pictures even when I got stuck on a tree stump, asking him to help me, and he ran out with a camera to take my picture. Of course like he taught me I gave him my best smile. We were his favorite subject. I feel lucky and blessed to have him as my grandpa and to have shared many stories with him and that I will have with me to comfort me during his passing, and that wonderful smile you always had on your face. Grandpa, I love you so much, you have left a big hole in my heart that I will fill with all of my wonderful memories of you.

My condolences to all.  We lost a great man, to me a great uncle.  I too remember him loving music and his dancing with both Carmen and his daughters specifically at a wedding when I was a young teenager.  It was my first time in Puerto Rico and one of the Days we rented a car and went off the beaten path to see the countryside and rain forest. ..we were late for dinner at his house and while everyone was friendly and inviting, a home cook meal to be had, he sad "it is a small island how did you get lost"  we all chuckled.  On this trip cousin tommy met us at the beach where i had smuggled down a boogie board...I could go on with boring stories but the moral is how welcoming him and Carmen were to us and all of the children and grandchildren as well.  They were to me representatives of my grandparents generation, long passed, and welcomers to the south and the islands.  God Bless to all in heaven and here on earth, you are missed!   CK

When I was first welcomed into the family, I believe on Thanksgiving, I knew how warm and inviting Tom was. Not being the norm with blue hair, tattoos and piercings, he never made me feel judged. I hold a special place in my heart for that day. Tom took my hand and asked me to dance in the living room. I begged him to let me take off my heels as I was a head taller than him but he refused and spun me around anyway. Not a time do I think of him without a big smile on his face. Rest easy Tom, you leave a giant hole but some amazing memories.
