Although time and life have kept us apart I still possess the fondest memories of my eldest Cousin Vernon as a child. A mentor, natural born leader, provider, protector, veteran, warrior, and servant - a SUPERHERO to me! Mernauf he went by during those times. STRONG (physically and mentally) rugged, tough - a no nonsense approach type of guy, but kind. A bit funny to his little cousin. Always felt safe around him. Told me the scariest joke story of the “Bloody Finger.” Cool as can be with drumsticks in one hand and a guitar in the other. In his room an assorted UV lighting display was the theme with posters of his favorite band at the time “The Beatles.” Throughout the past 45 years, there were glimpse of my SUPERHERO through limited “by chance” conversations. His unique voice while acknowledging my name “Junior.” A conversation just to catch up with the years that had passed ending with a scripture and a personal blessing. He LOVED the LORD and seeded many with the WORD along his vocational calling and journey in this life. He lived his life his way, private by choice, and I have always honored that not to be intrusive. I sensed he struggled and battled in life, but covered with the Full Body & Armor of GOD. Although, charred and scarred he still pressed forward with life’s burdens. He carried them quite well and took on the load of others too without complaint. He was gracious and honored to do that without thought. I wished he would have allowed me the opportunity to do the same for him. DEDICATED FAMILY man. This was everything to him – All that he needed. Just like Elvis “He did it HIS Way” too! Been thinking about you since I heard the heartbreaking news, but take comfort in knowing that I know where you are now. To his wife Pam and children my most sincere condolences for your loss. I shed a tear with you as well. Still remain as my SUPERHERO! Although we don’t know each other personally my heart and doors are open if you ever need me. Blessings!

Being the eldest of four children my brother Vernon had to fill the shoes of Man of the house as early as age 12. He worked after school to help take care of my Mother and us his siblings. He served his country and never stopped helping those that he could. He will be honored and remembered for ever and for everything! Rest In Peace my brother.
