Bill was born in East Orange, New Jersey, to the late Lyman and Myrtle Hubers Greene. At an early age, he moved with his family to Hollywood, Florida, where he grew up and graduated from South Broward High School.
Bill continued his education at Broward College and Florida Atlantic University, ultimately earning his doctoral degree in Education. He had a passion for presidential history, world affairs, and politics. Bill enjoyed a long and rewarding career for 35 years as a history professor at Broward College. He served as the Director and Assistant Vice President of International Education for 26 years. He was a pioneer in the early days of international education and study abroad. Under his direction, the college ran programs in over 40 countries. He created the Greene Scholarship for Study Abroad, which is still being awarded to students today. Following his retirement, Bill and his wife, Karen, made their home in Palm Coast.
Travel was one of Bill’s greatest passions. Together with Karen, he explored the world, visiting all 50 states, 100 countries, and every continent. One of his greatest accomplishments was visiting every Presidential gravesite. When he was at home, Bill enjoyed his extensive collection of model trains, playing bridge and faithfully following the Miami Dolphins and Miami Marlins. For all of his professional accomplishments, travels, and interests, Bill’s greatest joy was his family. He treasured the time he spent with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and especially his three grandsons and grand dog.
Bill leaves behind his beloved wife of 57 years, Karen; his daughter, Allison Murray; his son-in-law, Jim; and his three grandsons, Jack, Ryan, and Matt.
Bill will be remembered for his dedication to education, his interest in world affairs, his many adventures, and, above all, the love and devotion he had for his family.
