Zygmunt, or Ziggy as he was known to his friends, was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, to the late Zygmond and Sarah (Waszak) Wielgorecki. After graduating, Zygmunt served six years in the U.S. Navy. He served aboard the USS Tanner, an Artemis-class attack cargo ship, and the USS James M. Gillis, a minesweeper. He was honorably discharged as an Engineman Petty Officer Third Class and took great pride in his service.
After the Navy, Zygmunt worked as a pressman at Cricket Press for more than 40 years, known for his dependability and pride in his craft. After retiring, he and his wife, Jean, moved to Ormond Beach, Florida.
In his younger years, Zygmunt enjoyed woodworking and worked as a lobsterman in Massachusetts. Above all, he was devoted to his family. He and Jean shared a love of sports and enjoyed coaching their children. He also loved fishing, playing ice hockey, and cheering on the Boston Bruins, Red Sox and the Patriots.
Zygmunt's greatest joy was his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He and Jean shared 68 years of marriage. He will be remembered as a hardworking, honorable man whose love for his family was evident throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean (Davenport) Wielgorecki; two daughters, Lisa (Douglas) Killian of Palm Coast and Teresa Miville of Manchester, Massachusetts; one son, James (Sue Heidelberger) Wielgorecki of Ormond Beach; three grandchildren, Amber Wielgorecki, Ryan (Jocelyn) Killian, and Michael Killian; three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Natalie, and Arianna Killian; one niece, Maria Parisi; and one nephew, Michael Parisi.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Matthew; his sister, Joanne Parisi; and his brother-in-law, Nicholas Parisi.
His family and friends may visit on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road South, Flagler Beach. A memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by Military Honors.
