Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2010 at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Road, Flushing, MI with Pastor Randy Schultz officiating. As per Hap’s wishes, cremation will follow the services. Visitation 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 10:30 a.m Monday until time of services. Hap was born June 5, 1945 in Flint, MI to the union of Jack M. and Faith Naomi (Lloyd) Ashley. He was the second of five brothers. Hap attended Flint Northern High School. Hap married the love of his life, Brenda Lee Lowery on October 31, 1964 and to this union two children were born, Kimberly Ann and Albert Richard II. The joy of his life was his family. Hap was a real outdoorsman; he loved to hunt and fish, work in his yard and travel, especially “up north”. He and Brenda were known for their beautiful holiday yard displays, especially their Halloween extravaganza which coincided with their anniversary. Hap was a retiree of General Motors and owned and operated a successful taxidermy business for many years. Hap was a member of the Moose Lodge 1437 in Flushing, MI. In the mid seventies, Hap, along with several dear friends started the Westwood Heights Community Baseball Program. He was an umpire and held several offices but his real passion was coaching and his team, Modern Concrete won numerous championships. Hap leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 46 years, Brenda; daughter, Kim and husband Carl Giacalone and their two daughters, Sarah and Amanda all of Clio; son, Albert (Happy) and his wife Michelle and their two children Blake and Megan all of Burt, MI; brothers, Michael (Cherylynn) Ashley of Oregon and Robert (Shelly) Ashley; sister-in-law, Mary Lowery of West Branch, MI; nephew, Benjamin Lowery, III of Georgia and great nephew, Benjamin D. (Katie) Lowery of Washington State; dear friend, Larry Green; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends. Mr. Ashley was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jack (Butch) and John; his mother-in-law, Anna E. (Lowery) Bonomo and his brother-in-law, Benjamin Lowery, II. A warm and heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Fostrian who cared for my husband with love and compassion. It is deeply appreciated, Brenda.
